SCL develop software and provide web based software services in the travel money and prepaid card space with a deserved reputation for industry expertise and delivery to financial institutions, travel agents, bureau de change, supermarkets and U.S. shopping malls. Junior developer

SCL are looking for a junior developer to work on our UltraPoS platform which provides foreign exchange and pre-paid card vPOS services to our clients. UltraPoS consists of core services written in C++ and an increasing number of micro-services, usually written in Python. On top of this we have browser applications written in javascript used by our clients in their stores, public-facing websites written in PHP and Javascript, and some new targets in the coming year. We also create a number of support tools, typically in Python. All of this runs in AWS.

We have an on-going strategy to add new features and services whilst refining and modernising our code base to improve scalability and efficiency. We have some exciting plans for the coming 12 months.

You will be working on:

  • New features in our product pipeline;
  • Features to support new and existing clients’ business requirements;
  • Integrations with our partners to make validation, card funding or payment services available via UltraPoS;
  • Improvements to our supporting services and build processes;
  • Maintenance and improvement of our existing codebase.

You will have:

  • Demonstrable skills in Javascript;
  • Knowledge of other languages and technologies we use (Angular, Python PHP, SQL,  Java, HTML, CSS, Distributed version control);
  • An appreciation of software development tools, methodology and technology;
  • An interest in modern frameworks and tools;
  • An eye for security;
  • A drive to improve yourself, UltraPoS, and your working environment;
  • The ability to communicate effectively with your colleagues.

Build engineer

SCL are looking for a build engineer to manage building and deploying components for our UltraPoS platform which provides foreign exchange and pre-paid card vPOS services to our clients.

As a build engineer you will be preparing packages for rolling out new features and maintenance releases to our clients.  Adherence to process is a key requirement so you will need to enforce and conform to our auditing obligations. The role will suit someone who has strong Unix skills which they wish to develop further. The right candidate may also contribute to or work towards a developer role.

You will be

  • Working with our client managers, upgrade manager and support teams when scheduling changes;
  • Managing and co-ordinating which changes are applied to the various components and versions that comprise our platforms;
  • Ensuring changes conform to our strict handling policies;
  • Building packages for deployment by our support teams;
  • Deploying packages to our test environments;
  • Working with the development manager to streamline tools and processes used in the building and developing components used in our platform.

You will need

  • A solid IT background;
  • Familiarity with *nix environments at the command line level;
  • Experience of shell scripting;

You will find it useful to have

  • Knowledge of build systems such as Jenkins;
  • An understanding of other tools we use such as node.js and gulp;
  • A strong understanding of modern repositories, ideally mercurial.
